Two theaters, one owner. That is the whole movie scene in Durango, and it works better than it sounds. Translux Drive gets the new releases. East Fifth Street gets the smaller house and the festival crowd.
What movie theaters are in Durango?
| Theater | Address | What to expect | Live showtimes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durango Stadium 9 | 900 Translux Dr | First-run releases, reserved and stadium seating | Allen Theatres |
| Gaslight Twin Cinema | 102 E 5th St | Two screens, a smaller house that also hosts festival screenings | Allen Theatres |
Both belong to Allen Theatres, which lists showtimes and sells tickets online for each. The BigScreen Cinema Guide pages for Durango Stadium 9 and Gaslight Twin match on the addresses and carry a week of showtimes. Phone numbers differ between listing sites, so use the Allen Theatres page for contact details. Seats are reserved at both theaters, so you pick yours when you buy a ticket online instead of racing a line on a busy Saturday. Programs change every week, so we do not list titles here, and the Gaslight's page also lists concessions and directions.
Which Durango theater shows new releases?
Durango Stadium 9, out on Translux Drive. BigScreen sorts its schedule into new, recent and older releases, which is the usual pattern for a first-run multiplex. Check the Allen Theatres page for what is playing tonight and when the last show starts.
The building has a history. BigScreen says it was formerly Storyteller High Five Cinema, then Storyteller Durango Stadium 9. Allen Theatres bought it in July 2012 from Storyteller Theatres Corporation.
What is the Gaslight Twin Cinema?
The Gaslight is the old-fashioned one. It has two auditoriums at 102 E 5th Street and reserved seating. It does not try to match the multiplex title for title. When we looked in October 2026, its schedule included classic films alongside newer ones, so check the live page before you plan a night around it.
The Gaslight also hosts the Durango Independent Film Festival, an annual event held in early March. The 2026 festival ran March 4 through 8. Screenings ran at the Durango Arts Center and the Gaslight Twin, per KSUT Public Radio. KSUT listed adventure films, documentaries, shorts, Native cinema and features. The festival's site is Durangofilm.org. Dates for 2027 had not been announced when we checked, so look there for the next edition.
What seating and accessibility features do they list?
BigScreen's listings spell out the features for each theater:
- Durango Stadium 9: reserved seating, stadium seating, a luxury seating option, Dolby Digital sound, hearing-impaired support and digital projection.
- Gaslight Twin Cinema: reserved seating and digital projection.
The Gaslight's listing does not mention hearing support. If you need it, ask the theater before you buy.
What happened to Durango's old movie houses?
Main Avenue once had its own. The Kiva Theatre at 813 Main Avenue opened in 1927 in the Newman Block. It closed in the mid-1980s, according to Cinema Treasures. Its foyers now hold retail and a cocktail bar, and the auditorium is a billiard parlor. The Gem Theatre at 1001 Main Avenue was open before 1915 and was still open in 1928. It is retail space today, per Cinema Treasures.
Where else can you see a show?
The Animas City Theatre at 128 E College Drive describes itself as a home for movies, music and performing arts. Its events page is the place to look for film nights. Live performance fills the rest of the gap. Our answer on live music in Durango lists venues. The events calendar guide covers festivals through the year. Browse the performing arts theaters in the directory for stage shows.
