Where are the urgent care clinics in Durango?
Two clinics do most of the walk-in work. Here's how they line up, using what each clinic posts on its own site:
| Clinic | Address | Phone | Hours it lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durango Urgent Care | 2577 Main Avenue | 970-247-8382 | 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily (see note below) |
| Animas Urgent Care | 450 S. Camino del Rio (Hwy 550) | 970-385-2388 | 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily |
Verify before you drive over. Clinic hours change, and we checked these on October 22, 2026.
What's the catch with Durango Urgent Care's hours?
The clinic's own site says two things. A location table on its Durango page lists 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The "About" text on its home page says it opens daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. They can't both be right. Call 970-247-8382 before you go, especially late in the day.
The clinic says it opened in 2006, welcomes walk-ins and same-day visits, and also takes online appointment requests. It lists urgent care, sports injuries, work injuries, drug testing, wound care and lacerations among its services. On insurance it says it accepts almost all providers except out-of-state Medicaid.
What does Animas Urgent Care treat?
Animas Surgical Hospital runs this one, and it calls the service fast, walk-in care for illness and injury that isn't life-threatening. Think cuts, burns, sprains, a suspected minor fracture, a flu shot or a strep test. The clinic takes digital x-rays through the hospital. It sees work injuries too. Kids are welcome, and youth sports physicals are by appointment.
Find it about a mile south of downtown, near Big 5 Sporting Goods and Zia Taqueria South (Animas Surgical). Heads up on holidays: it's closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.
When should you skip urgent care and call 911?
When it could cost someone a life or a limb. That's the line CommonSpirit draws on its emergency department page: dial 911 right away. Urgent care is for the in-between stuff, the kind of problem that can't wait for a regular appointment but isn't an emergency.
Mental health or substance use crisis? Call or text 988 Colorado. The state says it's free and open 24/7 (988 Colorado).
Where can you go at night?
Both urgent care clinics close in the evening, so after hours your choice is an emergency room. Durango has two, and both are open 24/7:
- CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital, 1010 Three Springs Blvd, 970-247-4311
- Animas Surgical Hospital's ER, 575 Rivergate Lane, 970-247-3537
Our answer on which hospital is in Durango explains both. An emergency room visit is a different thing than an urgent care visit, and we can't tell you which one fits your situation.
How do you pay for urgent care?
Call and ask, because plans differ. Durango Urgent Care says it takes almost all insurance providers except out-of-state Medicaid, and its site has a payment and insurance page plus online bill pay. Animas Surgical's site lists pricing, bill pay and financial assistance pages, along with a patient portal. Ask each clinic about self-pay rates before you go if you're uninsured.
Can you book a visit ahead of time?
Sometimes. Durango Urgent Care takes appointment requests through its website as well as by phone, and it also does drug testing and work-injury exams. Animas Urgent Care takes walk-ins and books sports physicals. Neither clinic posts a wait time, so a quick call beats a cold arrival. Flu shots are listed at Animas, so ask when you phone.
Can you see a regular doctor instead?
Maybe, if you can wait. Our Durango healthcare guide lists primary care practices, pediatricians and specialists. The family practice category lists local doctors with ratings and hours.
