Which airlines and cities does Durango's airport serve?
Two airlines serve DRO, and the City of Durango runs the airport. United and American cover the schedule:
| Airline | Nonstop to | When |
|---|---|---|
| United | Denver (DEN) | Daily |
| United | Houston (IAH) | Seasonal |
| American | Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) | Daily |
| American | Phoenix (PHX) | Daily |
That is the full list. (City of Durango) The airport's home page calls it the primary regional airport for southwest Colorado, northwest New Mexico and the Four Corners. Anything else, from Seattle to Atlanta, means a connection in one of those hubs.
Exact schedules change by season. Use the airport's flight tracker or each airline's site before you book.
Where is the Durango airport, and how far is it from town?
The airport is at 1000 Airport Road, Durango, CO 81303. FAA records, as reproduced by AirNav, put it 10 miles southeast of Durango. The field sits at about 6,689 feet. Call the city's airport office at 970-382-6050.
Nothing about the trip is big-city. You drive out, park a few steps from the door and walk in. The airport itself says boarding and screening are quick and long-term parking is close.
How early should you get to DRO?
Earlier than the size of the terminal suggests. The city's airline page says to allow at least 90 minutes before departure for check-in and TSA screening. Plan on two hours for international trips, a big group or several bags.
The airline rules are tighter than the lobby feels:
- Ticket counters open about two hours before departure.
- Bags must be checked at least 45 minutes before the flight, per the city's page for both airlines.
- Be in the gate area 30 minutes before departure.
The terminal has free Wi-Fi (look for DRO_Wifi). Traveling with a dog? There's a grassy patch at the north end of the rental car lot, with a clean-up station (City of Durango).
Hungry before a flight? Sky Dine runs the food, drink and shops, with spots both before and after security. Every public area is at ground level, and the airline will bring a boarding ramp to the aircraft door if you tell them at check-in. No advance reservation is needed for that (City of Durango).
How much does it cost to park at DRO?
The airport's parking page lists two cashless lots. The first 60 minutes are free. After that it is $1.00 for each additional 30 minutes, capped at $10.00 per 24-hour period.
Holiday weeks cost more. The cap rises to $15.00 from November 23 to December 2, 2026, and again from December 23, 2026, to January 1, 2027. Only cards and tap-to-pay work. Level 1 EV charging in the first six spaces of the south lot is free for paid parking, but you bring your own cord.
Watch the clock on the way out. Leave even one minute past a 24-hour stretch and the airport says the system bills the next full day.
How do you get from the airport into Durango?
You need a plan before you land. Durango Transit, the city bus system, does not serve the airport. The airport says advance reservations are strongly suggested for taxis and shuttles because on-demand calls can mean a long wait. It lists Uber and Lyft alongside local companies. Our answer on taxis and rideshare in Durango covers the names and phone numbers.
Renting a car? Alamo/National, Avis/Budget, Enterprise and Hertz/Dollar all have desks at the airport. The airport says walk-ups are frequently unable to be accommodated, so book ahead, especially in ski season and on summer weekends.
If you are weighing DRO against a long drive, the airport's own cost comparison tool estimates mileage cost at $22 for DRO, $315 for Albuquerque and $521 for Denver. That is the airport's calculation, not an independent one. Distances are in our answer on how far Durango is from Denver.
